English Language Educator
Irene Theophilidou is an experienced English Language Educator with over 30 years of experience in language education across both the private and public sectors in Cyprus.
She began her teaching career at Pavla’s Institute (1995–1996) before joining G.E. English Centre, where she taught for seven years. Between 2001 and 2003, she was responsible for preparing and registering students for Anglia Examinations through G.E. English Centre.
In 2003, she founded the Irene Theophilidou English Language Institute, a private educational institution officially approved by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of Cyprus. For fourteen years (2003–2017), she successfully prepared students for internationally recognised English language qualifications, including Anglia and Cambridge examinations, while managing and developing her own educational organisation.
In September 2017, she was appointed as an English Language Teacher in the Cyprus public education system. Following her appointment, she successfully completed the official Pre-Service Training Programme and has since continued to serve in public secondary education.
In 2024, Irene coached the team of Aradippou Secondary School at the International English Language Olympia (ELO) in Amman, Jordan. Competing under the theme “National Heritage,” the Cypriot team achieved two international Third Place Awards.
The first award was received for the theatrical performance “Teucer, King of Salamis,” which showcased students’ creativity, teamwork, collaboration, communication skills, and critical thinking. The second award was achieved in the English Language category, reflecting the students’ high level of language proficiency and academic excellence.
Beyond the awards themselves, participation in the English Language Olympia provided students and coaches with a unique educational and intercultural experience. The competition fostered international friendships, cultural exchange, global awareness, and lifelong memories, highlighting the value of education in building bridges between young people from different countries and cultures.
Irene holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Greek Language and Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Language in Education at Master’s level from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.
In addition, she holds a pre-service training diploma from the University of Cyprus.
Her professional interests include communication skills development, educational innovation, intercultural collaboration, student leadership, English language learning, international educational initiatives, educational competitions, and Erasmus+ opportunities.
She is committed to supporting students in becoming confident communicators, critical thinkers, active citizens, and lifelong learners in an increasingly interconnected world.
